Confirmation

Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, Confirmation completes Christian initiation and empowers us with the gifts of the Spirit to be witnesses for Christ in the world.

The Sacrament of Strengthening

Sealed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Confirmation is a sacrament of initiation that completes what was begun in Baptism. It strengthens us with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit and deepens our relationship with Christ and the Church.

Through Confirmation, we receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit and are called to be witnesses to Christ in the world. This sacrament gives us the grace and strength we need to live as mature Christians and to spread and defend the faith.

At St Saviour's, we offer comprehensive preparation programs for both young people and adults. Our youth program prepares candidates through classes and retreats, while our RCIA process welcomes adults seeking to complete their Christian initiation.

Spiritual Empowerment

The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Through Confirmation, God bestows these seven sacred gifts to strengthen us in living the Christian life.

Wisdom

Wisdom

Confirmation

The gift of Wisdom enables us to judge divine things and to direct human affairs according to divine truth.

It helps us see the world through God's eternal perspective, desiring what is truly good and setting our hearts on the things of heaven.

Understanding

Understanding

Confirmation

Understanding grants a penetrating insight into the very heart of things, especially the higher truths necessary for salvation.

Through this gift, we grasp the deeper meaning of scripture and doctrine, perceiving God more clearly in all things.

Counsel

Counsel

Confirmation

The gift of Counsel enables us to be directed by God in matters necessary for salvation.

It guides us towards right choices and sound judgement, helping us discern the path that leads to God in the decisions we face each day.

Fortitude

Fortitude

Confirmation

Fortitude provides steadfastness in pursuing good and avoiding evil, especially amid difficulty.

Through this gift, we receive the confidence to overcome all obstacles in our spiritual life, sustained by the assurance of eternal life with God.

Knowledge

Knowledge

Confirmation

The gift of Knowledge grants us the ability to judge correctly about matters of faith and right action.

It keeps us on the path of justice and helps us recognise God's presence and purpose in all the circumstances of our lives.

Piety

Piety

Confirmation

Piety inspires a filial affection for God, moving us to honour him with reverence and devotion.

This gift strengthens our sense of duty towards God and towards others, fostering a spirit of worship, gratitude, and loving service.

Fear of the Lord

Fear of the Lord

Confirmation

Fear of the Lord is not a servile dread of punishment but a filial, reverent awe before the majesty of God.

This gift fills us with humble respect for our Creator and a holy desire to avoid anything that would separate us from his love.

Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Outpouring of the Holy Spirit

Confirmation

Confirmation brings the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. It deepens our relationship with God, strengthens our union with Christ, and perfects our bond with the Church.

Through this sacrament, the confirmed receive special strength from the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ.

Sealed with the Spirit

Sealed with the Spirit

Confirmation

Like Baptism, Confirmation imprints an indelible spiritual mark on the soul, signifying that Christ has sealed the Christian with the power from on high so that they may be his witness.

This character perfects the common priesthood of the faithful received in Baptism, empowering the confirmed to profess faith in Christ publicly and to participate fully in the Church's apostolic mission.
